Goodbye Fall, hello Winter: Cold weather, freezing temperatures and snow expected before Thanksgiving

Weather conditions will take a turn for the worst for most of the US a week before Thanksgiving. Although the Northeast could see some desperately needed rain after a recent drought, that same precipitation could take the form of the Lake Effect for the Great Lake region as a winter storm makes its way across the country from the Rocky Mountains.

The first snow of the season could hit the Northern Plains a week before before Thanksgiving. Winter-like temperatures can be expected in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula in Michigan along with high winds, which could complicate travel. The temperatures will be typical of November for most areas in the Midwest and Eastern part of the US, but after experiencing 70º F this month, the contrast will be tough to get used to.

The Great Lakes, Ohio and Tennessee Valleys could experience freezing temperatures on and around Nov. 21 with winds continuing their path towards the East. Cold air will continue into the Mid-Atlantic region after passing through the Great Lakes just seven days before families and friends sit down for turkey dinner. Western Pennsylvania and Upstate New York could see their first snow of the winter season before Thanksgiving as well as Cleveland and Buffalo will feel the Lake-effect conditions in the second half of November.
