Goodbye Twitter! Hello X! Elon Musk announces radical changes to the social media platform
Goodbye, Twitter, hello, X! Elon Musk has announced that there will be changes in the platform, and that the blue bird will no longer be the company’s logo.
Twitter’s famous blue bird is about to be history.
Since Elon Musk acquired the company for $44 billion in October 2022, the tycoon has made a series of changes to the platform that have caused the anger and disappointment of millions of users around the globe, and it looks like he is taking another such step.
The billionaire has announced that it was time to say goodbye to the iconic blue bird for a rebranding or brand identity redesign, with the goal of evolving Twitter.com to X.com.
“And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” Musk tweeted Saturday night.
Goodbye, Twitter, hello, X! Here’s what Musk’s new changes to the platform look like
Through a series of tweets, Elon Musk revealed that the platform’s new logo would be in the shape of an “X”, and asked his followers for some design options. This radical change stems from Musk’s desire to turn Twitter into “X, the app for everything.”
The new logo will be unveiled later on Sunday, Musk said.
This new change comes weeks after Meta’s launch of the microblogging platform Threads, Twitter’s direct competitor. It also represents the latest move in a series of controversial changes, such as limiting the number of tweets a user can view or paying a monthly fee for account verification.
Elon Musk’s obsession with the letter X
While the evolution of Twitter to X was a surprise move to many, Musk’s fascination with the 24th letter of the alphabet is nothing new. The letter has been present in several of his businesses such as SpaceX or the Tesla Model X. Musk also has a son named X Æ A-Xii with singer Grimes, and the child is simply called ‘X’.
“The letter X symbolizes the unknown, the limitless possibilities of exploration and the crossroads where technology and imagination converge,” expressed the entrepreneur a few months ago.
