The results of the 2025 visa lottery are now available.
Each year, the United States government gives up to 55,000 diversity visas to grant permanent residence to people from countries with a low immigration rate to the United States.
Generally, the call opens two years in advance, so applications for the 2025 Visa Lottery were received in 2023. As for the results, they were made available beginning this month.
How and where can you check the 2025 visa lottery results?
Online registration for the 2025 visa lottery ended on November 7 of last year, while the draw took place in 2024. Once the winners are announced, the following year, they can start their permanent residence process.
Results are reported through the Immigrant Diversity Visa Program website. This is the only means by which winners are notified to enter the program. To enter, participants must have their confirmation number.
According to the website, participants of the 2025 visa lottery must keep their confirmation number until at least September 30, 2025.
This is how you can verify if you are one of the winners:
People who are chosen to be able to start the process must present the required immigration forms (DS-260) by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Subsequently, they must attend an interview at the embassy closest to their place of residence.
When does the call for the 2026 Visa Lottery open?
The exact dates to apply for one of the more than 50,000 diversity visas for 2026 have not yet been confirmed. However, the call is generally available for one month, from the beginning of October to the beginning of November.
As for the countries that can participate, the U.S. government publishes a list of countries whose residents CANNOT apply because more than 50,000 people from each of these countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five years. Residents of countries that do not appear on this list may apply.
For example, for the 2025 Visa Lottery, natives of the following countries and areas were NOT eligible to apply:
Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea (South Korea), United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, Venezuela and Vietnam.
