Tonight’s jackpot has soared past the billion-dollar mark. For Wednesday, September 3, the Powerball grand prize stands at $1.4 billion, with a cash option of $634.3 million available for immediate payout—making it the fourth-largest prize in the game’s history.
“This could be the night someone wins this billion-dollar jackpot,” said Matt Strawn, chair of the Powerball Product Group and CEO of the Iowa Lottery. “Players are excited to take another shot at this growing prize, but we encourage everyone to play responsibly. All it takes is a $2 ticket to win,” he added.
Powerball’s $1.4 Billion Drawing: Time & Live Stream Info
Drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET / 9:59 p.m. CT / 7:59 p.m. PT, live from the lottery studios in Tallahassee, Florida.
You can watch the drawing live on the official Powerball website. Since the draw lasts less than a minute, result clips are posted immediately on Powerball’s official YouTube channel, where you can also check past winning numbers.
How to Play Powerball
As the Iowa Lottery CEO mentioned, each ticket costs $2, and with a bit of luck, that small investment could turn into hundreds of millions. Powerball is available in nearly every U.S. state except Alabama, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii, and Alaska. Tickets can be purchased up to one or two hours before the draw, depending on local regulations.
To play, choose five numbers from 1 to 69 for the white balls and one number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball. Match all six numbers to win the $1.4 billion jackpot.
Winners can choose between two payout options:
- A lump-sum cash payment of $634.3 million, or
- The full jackpot amount paid out in 30 annual installments, increasing by 5% each year to keep pace with inflation and preserve purchasing power.
Even if you don’t hit the jackpot, there are nine ways to win, with prizes ranging from $4 to millions of dollars, depending on how many numbers you match.
