For the upcoming 2024 General Election, early voting in California began on October 7, 2024. This marks the start of a nearly month-long period during which voters can cast their ballots before Election Day on November 5.

Early voting in California lasts for approximately four weeks, giving voters ample time to cast their ballots before Election Day. With options including vote-by-mail, in-person early voting, and ballot drop-off boxes, California provides extensive opportunities for voters to participate in the electoral process at their convenience.

How to vote in California

Vote by Mail: All active registered voters in California automatically receive a mail-in ballot approximately one month before Election Day. Voters can return their completed ballots by mail (must be postmarked by November 5, 2024, and received by November 12, 2024) or in person at designated drop-off locations.

In-Person Early Voting: Many counties offer in-person early voting at various locations, including county elections offices and additional sites. The availability and hours of these locations may vary by county.

Ballot Drop-Off Boxes: Secure ballot drop-off boxes opened on October 8, 2024, providing another convenient option for voters to return their completed ballots.
