One of the actors who has been nominated and awarded in these categories is Dustin Hoffman, considered by many to be one of the greatest actors in history.

Native to Los Angeles, he is the second son of Lillian Gold and Harry Hoffman, a family of Jewish immigrants from Ukraine and Romania. His mother chose the name Dustin in honor of actor Dustin Farnum. His father worked as a set decorator, but went bankrupt when he ventured into film production.

Hoffman graduated from Los Angeles High School and enrolled in pre-med studies, which he dropped out of to study drama at Pasadena. By 1961, he had landed small television roles and made his Broadway debut three years later. He soon made the jump to the big screen.

The nominations and Oscars won by Dustin Hoffman

Dustin Hoffman is one of the most successful actors in the film industry, with a long career and a large number of awards and nominations. He has seven nominations and two Best Actor Oscars under his belt, won for “Kramer vs. Kramer” (1979) and “Rain Man” (1988). Hoffman has been nominated five other times for the Best Actor Oscar:

  • ‘The Graduate’ (1967)
  • ‘Midnight Cowboy’ (1969)
  • ‘Lenny’ (1974) ‘Tootsie’ (1982)
  • ‘Wag the Dog’ (1997)

In addition, he has won numerous awards: five Golden Globes and two BAFTAs, as well as dozens of nominations among the great awards of the film world.
