How many Golden Globe awards and nominations does Brendan Fraser have?
Fraser has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama.
The 80th Golden Globe Awards will be held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on Tuesday 10 January from 8pm ET and will be hosted by stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael.
Brendan Fraser received his first Golden Globe nomination for his role in “The Whale”, despite previously saying he wouldn’t attend. On 12 December 2022, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), announced the list of nominees for their 2023 awards.
Fraser leads The Whale as an obese and reclusive teacher, who attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter, has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama.
Fraser, however, told GQ that he “will not participate” in this year’s Golden Globes despite receiving a nomination, before the nominations were released.
“I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” he said.
“No, I will not participate. It’s because of the history that I have with them. And my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can call me a lot of things, but not that.”
In 2018, the 54-year-old actor alleged that he was groped by Philip Berk, the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, at a luncheon in 2003. Berk was expelled from the organization in 2021 for unrelated comments about the Black Lives Matter movement.
Berk has denied the claims and called Fraser’s account “a total fabrication”. Fraser received an apology from the HFPA but no charges were brought against Berk.
Golden Globes Best Actor nominees
Fraser could win the award for Best Actor in The Whale after receiving praise for his role in the 2022 American drama film directed by Darren Aronofsky.
The other nominees for the category are Austin Butler for Elvis; Hugh Jackman for The Son; Bill Nighy for Living; and Jeremy Pope for The Inspection.
