The 80th Golden Globe Awards will be held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on Tuesday 10 January from 8pm ET and will be hosted by stand-up comedian Jerrod Carmichael.

Director James Cameron has received a total of two Golden Globe awards over the years. He won his first for Titanic in the Best Director – Motion Picture category in 1998.

In 1997, he wrote, directed, edited and produced Titanic, which was one of the most expensive films ever made. Released to critical acclaim, the film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, became the first picture to gross $1 billion at the box office.

In 2009, Avatar was released. It broke several box office records and on 25 January 2010, it became the highest-grossing film in history. Cameron picked up the Golden Globe prize again in 2010 when he received an award in the same category for Avatar. As well as this year’s recognition for the Avatar sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water (Avatar 2), the 68-year-old director has had four Golden Globe nominations.

This year, Cameron is competing against directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for Everything Everywhere All at Once; Baz Luhrmann for Elvis; Martin McDonagh for The Banshees of Inisherin; and Steven Spielberg for The Fabelmans.
