Elon Musk sat down for a conversation with presidential candidate Donald Trump on X Spaces scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET, but the interview got off to a turbulent start.
The social media platform ran into technical issues leaving users unable to join the event. Musk said the problems were caused by a distributed denial-of-service or DDoS attack that overloaded X systems. Tech experts have questioned the billionaire’s statement in light of the fact that the rest of the social media platform was working at the time.

After a little more than 40 minutes past the scheduled start time, the conversation finally began, and ran for more than two hours.

The talk between the two was streamed on Trump’s revived account, signaling his return to the platform. According to the number on the former president’s post, 2.1 million tuned in to Trump’s Space, while the post itself garnered 54.3 million views.
Although 2.1 million is an impressive number, it is not the Space that users listened to the most. According to Global Index, the most popular Twitter Spaces event by total listeners is Elon Musk’s interview with Trump’s former rival for the Republican nomination, Ron DeSantis, which had 4.2 listeners, followed by Robin Wheeler’s Elon Q&A, with 2.7 million.
Next is BBC and Elon Musk with 2.6 million, then Elon Musk’s Twitter Space on Twitter Files, which attracted 2.2 million listeners. By this count, the conversation with Trump sits in fifth place.
