How many times has Kanye West run for President and how many votes did he get?

The rapper has been in the midst of misconduct and anti-semitic allegations but announced he will be making another run for the top job.

Rapper Kanye West, who changed his name to Ye, has announced he will be running for US president in 2024. He said that he has asked former president Donald Trump to be his running mate, despite the latter already announcing his third run for the job.

In a video titled Mar-A-Lago Debrief, West said, “Trump started basically screaming at me at the table, telling me I’m going to lose. Has that ever worked for anyone in history?”

West was seen at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago villa in Florida this week with Nick Fuentes a ultra right-wing white nationalist. Like West he has made a number of anti-semitic remarks and beliefs, saying in July 2021, “I have nothing to lose. This is going to be the most racist, sexist, antisemitic, Holocaust-denying speech in all of Dallas this weekend.” He poorly masks his bigotry behind claiming to be “joking” with everything he says.

This announcement comes as West is under investigation by Adidas, a former business partner, for creating a “toxic environment” for staff. Rolling Stone reported West was showing explicit pictures and videos to workers and that bosses were aware of West’s “problematic behaviour” but “turned their moral compass off”.

What happened the last time Kanye West ran for president?

West also ran for president during the 2020 race but was backed by no party and the jury is still out whether the bid was in any way serious.

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” West wrote in a Twitter post at the time, adding an American flag emoji and the hashtag " 2020VISION”.

He announced his run too late to run in six states and ended up on the ballot of just 12. He achieved around 60,000 votes of a possible 160 million or 0.0375% of the total vote.
