How much candy should you give to each kid on Halloween?

As you prepare to welcome a parade of costumed characters at your doorstep, one question looms: how much candy should you give each eager trick-or-treater?

Giving out candy is an important part of Halloween, rewarding kids who have made the effort to go all-out with their costumes, or just to give a bit of support to others.

A common guideline is to provide 2 to 3 pieces of candy per child, according to wikiHow. This amount strikes a balance between generosity and practicality, especially if you anticipate a large number of trick-or-treaters. As the night progresses, especially if you have plenty of candy left, you can increase it to 3 or even 4 pieces for later arrivals.

If you live in a densely populated area with many families, prepare for a higher volume of trick-or-treaters. In such cases, consider buying larger bags of assorted candies.

Offering a variety of candies can appeal to different tastes. Popular choices include chocolate bars like Snickers and Reese’s, as well as fruity options like Skittles and Starburst. Having some allergy-friendly options, such as glow sticks or non-candy treats, is also considerate for children with dietary requirements. If you are feeling healthy, or mean, delete as appropriate, offering fruit is another option.
