How much did the 6 April Powerball jackpot winner collect?
There was a winner after Saturday night’s draw was delayed more than three hours due to “pre-draw procedures.”
The Powerball lottery has produced a new billionaire after complications led to a delay in the draw procedure as millions were made to wait for the numbers to be revealed on Saturday night.
A Powerball jackpot-winning ticket worth $1.33 billion was sold in Oregon with the numbers drawn being: 22, 27, 44, 52, 69 and the red Powerball 9.
The lucky winning ticket holder can now elect to accept the prize paid out over 29 year instalments or accept a one-off lump sum of $621.1 million.
The odds of winning the jackpot are remote and estimated to be 1 in 292,201,338, additionally, as the jackpot grows in value so does the number of players trying to win.
Saturday’s winner now has 60 days to claim the billion dollar payout and law in the State of Oregon states that the name of the winner be revealed.
Controversy surrounds the 6 April draw
Social media was rife with speculation surrounding Powerball manipulation with the draw eventually taking place around 2:30 a.m. (ET) Sunday morning as opposed to the traditional 11 p.m. (ET) slot.
The results of the win were delayed several hours due to a participating lottery needing “additional time to complete required pre-draw procedures, which have been enacted to protect the security and integrity of the Powerball game.”
Every single ticket sold nationwide must be checked and verified against two different computer systems before the numbers are drawn, Powerball said.
How to play Powerball
When you play Powerball, you need to choose six numbers from two separate pools for the drawing. Players choose five numbers between 1 and 69 for the white balls and one number for a red ball, or Powerball, from 1 to 26.
There are a total of nine ways to win a prize in Powerball, ranging from $4, recovering your initial $2 buy-in plus $2, to the jackpot. Players can increase their prize amounts by spending an extra $1 for the “PowerPlay” option to win two, three, four, or even five times as much. However, the PowerPlay only applies to non-jackpot prizes below $1 million. Any PowerPlay number doubles the $1 million prize.
Next Powerball jackpot
Anyone inspired by the Oregon winner can play Powerball with the next draw scheduled for Monday, 8 April with the jackpot reverting to a more ‘modest’ $20 million.
When are the Powerball draws?
There are three Powerball draws a week, held at 10:59 p.m. ET / 7:59 p.m. PT on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
