The latest news from X, formally known as Twitter, is that the platform will allow adult content to be posted without as many restrictions. Since Elon Musk took over the platform, users have reported an increase in pornographic content, and Musk has defended the company’s decision, arguing that allowing the content will make it easier to moderate. This will include content warnings and ensuring that users under eighteen cannot view this content and are not served it through the platform’s algorithm. Users who have not provided a birth date will also be unable to view flagged content.

The statement released by X explains that users ”can share nudity or adult sexual behavior produced and distributed consensually, as long as they are properly labeled and not prominently displayed.” Many users have voiced their discontent with the change and have asked Musk if there will be a way to opt out of seeing pornographic content. In a response to a user, the X owner said giving users the option was a “top priority.” However, no details on when such a feature would be available have been announced.

How is X defining adult content?

According to the platform’s Help Center, users will be allowed to “share consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior” so long as “it’s properly labeled and not prominently displayed.”

The platforms see sexual content as another manifestation of free expression and have adapted their policy to support “the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires, and experiences, including those related to sexuality.

”Musk’s move to allow adult content on his platform is being couched as a way to increase revenue by allowing the social media site to compete with only fans. Musk attacked Substack, a platform that allows journalists, bloggers, and other writers to publish content independently, by banning links to the site on X. Substack was seen as a competitor to X after Musk’s takeover, which increased the length of posts allowed on the platform. The move to allow adult content positions X to compete with Only Fans in a similar way to the banning of Substack. However, with explicit content, the issue of attracting advertisers could increase as there aren’t many brands that would like their content followed or proceeded by pornographic imagery

How much money does Elon Musk make every minute?

Coindex has calculated that Musk earns $537 a second, or $32,200 a minute. Through his various business ventures, including X, SpaceX, and Tesla, the billionaire makes more money in a few minutes than most Americans make in an entire year. However, not all of this money is earned as income and thus liquid and able to be spent. Much of Musk’s wealth is represented by his stocks and other assets. As the value of his companies increases, so does his wealth.
