Future success for those who win ‘Best New Artist’
For artists just getting their footing, a win could provide them with the “Grammy Bounce.”
Last year, the “Best New Artist” award was presented to Olivia Rodrigo, whose debut album “Sour” broke streaming records. After receiving the award, Google picked up a significant increase in searches related to the artists, showing that it may have helped attack new listeners who her music. Similar trends can be seen for Megan Thee Stallion and Billie Elish, who won in 2021 and 2020, respectively.
However, tracking exactly how much winning that award adds to the success of an artist in the long term is quite tricky. Analysts run into an issue because assuming that the award, rather than the artist’s talent, is what gives them a boost negates that the award is given to what is presumed “the best artists.”
There is sure to be some relationship between winning and future success because the awards go to those who industry insiders believe will go far in their careers.

While the article is over a decade old, it did find that with some stars like Bruno Mars, their average nightly gross revanue sew increased from $130,000 to $202,00.
Other singers, however, like Taylor Swift, saw much more significant increase; after winning her ticket, sales surged over 380 percent surge, grossing $125,000 before her win to $ 600,000.
While there likely still exists a connection between winning a Grammy and increased ticket sales, the pandemic and the cancellation of many world tours have also increased interest in seeing artists perform live today.
