Joe Biden and Donald Trump are the leading candidates to win the presidency of the United States in the November elections. Both Republicans and Democrats have two veteran figures as their standard bearers to lead the country during the next four years. One issue that has been present throughout the campaign season is the age of both candidates.

By the time the election results are known, Trump will be a year older than he currently is, while Biden will be turning a year older soon after the ballots are cast. Both candidates hovering around 80 years of age, with Biden above the threshold. On election day, their combined ages will be 159 years.

The candidates’ ages are an easy target of jokes and memes, but for many political scientists, they are a true cause for worry. The two leaders’ state of mind are under scrutiny, and some negative aspects of their behavior are being attributed to their advanced age.
