How to vote from the USA and abroad in the General Elections of the Dominican Republic 2024?

This Sunday 19 May general elections will be held in the Dominican Republic. Here is how citizens can vote from the United States or other countries abroad.

How to vote from the USA in the Dominican Republic elections

This Sunday, May 19, general elections will be held in the Dominican Republic. Dominican citizens will go to the polls to elect the next president and vice president, as well as representatives in Congress.

According to the Central Electoral Board (JCE) of the Dominican Republic, the electoral roll is made up of 7,281,763 Dominicans within the country, as well as 863,785 Dominicans abroad whoa are eligible to vote, giving a total of 8,145,548 voters at a general level, of which 51% are women and 49% are men.

In the case of Dominicans abroad, according to the JCE, The United States is the country with the most eligible voters to vote, totaling 613,340 people. The United States is followed by Spain and Puerto Rico, Italy and Panama. Here is how citizens can vote from the USA and abroad.

Dominican Republic Elections: How to vote from abroad

To vote from abroad in the general elections of the Dominican Republic, people must be registered in the electoral registry of the city where they reside. This process was closed on January 21.

If you are registered, you must go in person to cast your vote. In the case of voting abroad, you will be given two ballots: the presidential one (P) and the one for deputations abroad ( OF).

The Dominican authorities have divided the voting constituencies into three:

  • Constituency 1: Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, Reading, Washington, California, Providence, Montreal and Toronto.
  • Constituency 2: Orlando, Curacao, Miami, Panama, Puerto Rico, San Martín, Venezuela and Chile.
  • Constituency 3: Barcelona, Holland, Madrid, Milan, Zurich and Valencia.

Know where you have to vote abroad

The JCE has a tool where they can verify the precinct where you should go to vote. The only thing you have to do is enter the identification and electoral card number and check the box, then just click on the “verify precinct” option and the corresponding polling station will appear.

Voting hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In Europe, the elections start at 8:00 a.m. and they close at 6:00 p.m. local time. To be able to vote you must present your current identity and electoral card.
