After his disastrous debate performance last Thursday, President Biden will give his first interview this evening on ABC. The network’s George Stephanopoulos will conduct the interview, as the New York Times reports that a close ally of Biden says he is considering dropping out of the presidential race.

The White House denied this reporting and claimed they were not given enough time to respond. During a rally in Wisconsin, President Biden said he was not going anywhere and added that he would not let the debate define his term in the White House. On his official X account, he also clarified his position, saying that he was “the nominee of the Democratic Party” and that he was committed to staying in the race.

However, while President Biden is showing strength, donors and high-level officials continue to consider their electoral strategy and whether or not keeping him on the ticket will lead to the victory of Donald Trump in November.

When will the interview air?

The interview will air at 8:30 pm ET on ABC. You can tune in on your TV by flipping to the ABC channel or streaming the interview online. ABC will stream ‘World News Tonight’ and ‘This Week’ live on its YouTube channel for cable cutters who do not have access to the channel on their televisions.

The interview is pre-recorded, meaning it is unlikely that any major announcements will be made. The media event will be critical as it is his first major television appearance since the disastrous performance. Nevertheless, it is hard to imagine that the same number of eyeballs will be tuned into the interview as were during the debate. Thus, even if he performs better, he may not be able to convince the voters that he is ready to do the job.
