The assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump at a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday has heightened focus on the security of the former president, especially as the Republican National Convention is taking place this week to formally name him as the GOP candidate for the November election.

After Saturday’s attack, President Joe Biden condemned political violence and said the shooting shows there is a need to cool down political fervor in the country.

The president has issued an order to conduct an investigation of the security measures that were in place during the rally in Butler, and pledged that the results of the probe will be made available to the public.

How will Biden reinforce Trump’s security as affirmed in his statements?

The Trump campaign said they have beefed up security at the venue of the RNC being held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The convention started on Monday, July 15 and will last through Thursday, July 18.

Biden said he has ordered the Secret Service to go over the security measures that are in effect at the convention location. He also said he has asked the security detail to make sure Trump has “every resource, capability, and protective measure necessary to ensure his continued safety.”

U.S. Secret Service coordinator for the convention Audrey Gibson-Cicchino says their security plans will remain in place. “We’re not anticipating any changes to our current security footprint or planning,” she said.
