How you can help those affected by hurricanes Milton and Helene
Two weeks after Hurricane Helene, Milton made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 hurricane. Here’s how you can help those affected.
The state of Florida has been hit by two powerful hurricanes in just as many weeks- Helene, a Category 4 hurricane, and Milton, a Category 3 hurricane, affecting millions of people.
On the evening of Sept. 26, Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane in the Big Bend region, just east of the mouth of the Aucilla River near Perry. Helene unleashed storm surge, torrential rains- which caused flooding- and destructive winds, which caused power outages.
Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Siesta Key on the central west coast of Florida on Wednesday night, Oct. 9. Milton also brought storm surge, heavy rain, flooding, strong winds and structural damage.
According to CNN’s tally, the death toll from Helene has reached at least 232 across six states: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Meanwhile, as of the evening of Oct. 10, there have been 13 deaths from Milton.
