From 9-11 September, Disney held the D23 Expo, an event in which the company provides advances on future projects, including Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, despite the other teases, Deadpool’s release date and details of the third film were not shared… that was until today.

Reynolds and Jackman reveal Wolverine for Deadpool 3

In a video shared on his social media accounts, Ryan Reynolds confirmed the release date of Deadpool 3, a film that will hit theaters on 6 September 2024. However, that was not all, as the actor, who plays the antihero, also revealed that Hugh Jackman would return to play Wolverine.

“Hey everyone, we’re really sad to miss out on D23, but we’ve been working really hard on the next Deadpool movie for a long time,” says Reynolds in the video sat on his couch. “I really had to search my soul on this one.

“His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find a new depth, motivation, meaning,” he added.

“It has been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach deep inside. And I... I have nothing. Yes, completely empty here. And terrifying. But we had an idea.

“Hey Hugh, do you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asks Jackman who walks into the background.

“Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replies nonchalantly.

The video ends with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” and a “Coming Hughn” tag (which sounds a bit like ‘coming soon’ when said out loud. Deadpool’s logo then appears, before it is suddenly slashed by Wolverine’s adamantium claws.

Shawn Levy, who made Free Guy and The Adam Project with Reynolds, will direct Deadpool 3. Also, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first two Deadpool movies, return to write the third. It had previously been confirmed that Deadpool 3 will remain R-rated, even after joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The last time X-Men fans saw Jackman as Wolverine was in 2016′s Logan, in which he died at the end of the film, raising questions about how he will now return.
