Hunter Biden ignored a House subpoena to appear in a closed-door deposition and instead issued an impassioned statement against Republicans who are pushing impeachment proceedings against his father, President Joe Biden.

He made his speech outside the Capitol, saying, “I’m here today to make sure that the House committees’ illegitimate investigations of my family do not proceed on distortions, manipulated evidence and lies.”

“James Comer, Jim Jordan, Jason Smith, and their colleagues have distorted the facts,” he said.

Hunter Biden: Republicans are shameless

“There is no fairness or decency in what these Republicans are doing. They have lied over and over about every aspect of my personal and professional life... they have displayed naked photos of me during an oversight hearing.”

He called the Republicans’ efforts “shameless”, and was adamant that his father played no role in his dealings and his investments.

“Let me state as clearly as I can: My father was not financially involved in my business... during my battle with addiction, my parents were there for me. They literally saved my life... to suggest that is grounds for an impeachment inquiry is beyond the absurd.

“There is no evidence to support the allegations that my father was involved in my business because it did not happen.”

Hunter Biden could be held in contempt of Congress

The GOP is leading impeachment proceedings against the president for his alleged role in Hunter’s business transactions. They had issued Hunter Biden a subpoena to ask about his overseas transactions as part of their investigation.

The younger Biden has insisted on testifying in an open hearing instead of having a closed-door deposition. Republicans claim that a public hearing would result in disruption by Democrats.

The deposition is required by the lawmakers, and as such they say they will likely begin contempt proceedings against the president’s son.
