Florida’s west coast is bracing for a new hurricane: Milton. This new storm arrives just 10 days after Helene, the second deadliest hurricane to hit the continental United States in the last 50 years.
Milton is now a Category 5 hurricane packing maximum sustained winds of 175 mph. It is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, Oct. 9, on the west coast of the Sunshine State, which is why 35 counties are already under a state of emergency.
With Milton’s inevitable arrival, the government is urging residents in potentially affected areas to prepare their homes, organize their disaster plan, and implement plans to stay safe.
