The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that two brands of pet food may be contaminated with listeria and salmonella bacteria. The agency is urging pet owners against feeding their cats and dogs the affected products and to throw them away.

The affected brands are Answers Pet Food and Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, both of which tested positive for the bacteria which could make animals sick. Pets could in turn pass the disease to their owners by kissing them, or by spreading their waste matter in a home. People can also contract infections by cleaning up after their dogs or cats.
