Iron Chef Mexico: format, cast, judges and host

Mexico has a new cooking programme premiering on Netflix, Iron Chef. The entirety of the first series has been released with eight episodes to watch.

Originally the programme was created in Japan in 1993 where it was known as Ryōri no Tetsujin, meaning“Ironmen of Cooking”. The series ran for 309 episodes until 2002. It was revived under the new name Iron Chef in 2012. It has since spawned numerous regional spin offs, including this Mexican version.

It will be shown on Netflix for those who are interested in viewing it.

Who is in it?

There will be six chef challengers to take on the judges. Each episode focus upon one key ingredient, be it jackfruit or cactus. The challenger then competes with the chef to produce the best meal.

Two challengers face off in a semi-final in episode seven before the winner takes on all three of the judges in the final episode.

Who are the judges?

The three Iron Chefs will be Francisco Ruano, Roberto Solis, and Gabriela Ruiz. Each epsiode they take on one of the challenger chefs.

Francisco ‘Paco’ Ruano opened the Alcalde restaurant in January 2013 with two partners in Guardalajara, Mexico.

Roberto Solis was born in Merida, Yucatan state. He has been an apprentice in a number of restaurants around the world to bring as many flavours to his dishes as possible. He now runs kitchens around Yucatan state.

Gabriela Ruiz opened the “Best New Restaurant in Mexico” in the Food and Travel Magazine’s Reader Awards in 2017. She has also been invited to the Food Innovation & Design Symposium by Stanford University and Berkeley University, giving her arguably the strongest credentials in the show.
