After Will Smith slapped Christ Rock in the face at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony, Jada Pinket Smith became a household name.

Shortly after it was announced that Will Smith would be checking himself into a luxury rehab facility, Jada took to Instagram, posting, “This is a season for healing, and I am here for it.”

US Weekly reported that an insider close to Jada and WIll said that the couple was “in agreement that he overreacted” to the joke made by Chris Rock.

I never wanted to be married,” said Pickett Smith during an episode of the Red Table Talk, back in 2018.

Red Table Talk is a Facebook Original hosted by Jada and typically features her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and her daughter Willow Smith.

These comments have resurfaced light of the recent events as many following the saga look into the marriage between the two stars.

What did the couple discuss in the episode?

The episode was divided into two parts. During the first, Jada, Adrienne, and Willow spoke largely about the events leading up to the marriage, and the second was a heartfelt conversation between Jada and Will.

The women discussed how Jada’s first pregnancy with Jadan was accidental and essentially prompted their marriage.

Jada and Will were finally married on New Year’s Eve 1997 at Cloisters Castle.

I was under so much pressure, you know, being a young actress, being young, and I was just, like, pregnant. I just didn’t know what to do,” said Jada.

Later in the episode, she admitted to being “very upset” about having to commit to Will saying that she was not a believer in the institution of marriage.

In addition to her aversion to marriage, generally, she was not happy with the way the celebration took place saying that she “just wanted it to be the two of [them] on a mountain because I was like: ‘This is serious business.’

Adrienne described that the wedding day was “horrible.” “It was a mess. Jada was sick. She was very unpleasant … She didn’t cooperate with anything.”

Agreeing with her mother’s analysis, Jada said, “I went crying down the damn hallway. I cried the whole way.”

Unlike Jada, Will said during the episode that “there wasn’t a day in my life that I wanted anything other than being married and having a family.”

“From literally 5 years old, I was picturing what my family would be.”
