Stealing the spotlight in an unexpected turn of events at Cannes, Jane Fonda added an amusing twist when she threw the award at the Palme d’Or laureate, Justine Triet, triggering a wave of viral attention.

The unforgettable moment occurred at the renowned International Film Festival of Cannes, in France. Fonda, the esteemed 85-year-old actress, had the honor of presenting the Palme d’Or to director Justine Triet for her masterfully crafted film ‘Anatomy of a Fall’. The iconic actress heralded the moment as a historic milestone, with seven women nominated for the first time and Triet etching her name as the third woman ever to triumph at the festival.

Taking her place on the podium, Triet delivered a succinct acceptance speech. However, as she walked off she managed to entirely forget her Palme d’Or certificate. Fonda attempted to get her attention, but to no avail. The seasoned actress then took matters into her own hands, quite literally, and tossed the certificate directly towards the unsuspecting director, setting the stage for one of the festival’s most viral moments.

Following her impulsive act, Jane Fonda could only raise her hands in an air of resignation, as the room dissolved into laughter:

Prior to this viral moment, Jane Fonda had already seized media attention with candid revelations about her past co-star, the revered actor Robert Redford. Fonda talked about their professional history, suggesting Redford had difficulties in dealing with women.

“He did not like to kiss. I never said anything to him about it. And he’s always in a bad mood, and I always thought it was my fault. He’s a very good person. He just has an issue with women.” Fonda said that she was “in love with him” on three of the four films they worked on together, and said she thought his bad mood was her fault. “What was I, about 80 years old, or something like that, I knew I was finally grown up, because when he’d come on to the set three hours late in a bad mood, I knew it wasn’t my fault. We always had a good time. He’s a very good person.
