You may have expected the Trump family to close ranks in the face of the pressure put onto former president Trump by the January 6 committee, but it has taken just a day for the alliance to be shattered. Ivanka Trump, daughter of Donald, took part in the first day of its congressional investigations and argued in her deposition against the claims of election fraud posed by many in the Republican party.

Ivanka Trump was asked in her deposition about the role of William Barr, Donald Trump’s attorney general, surrounding the election. He had been placed under massive pressure by the Republican party to overturn the election results, but ultimately decided to respect them.

Speaking to AP on December 1, 2020, Barr said, “to date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election.”

In June 2022, no widespread electoral fraud has been found.

“I respect Attorney General Barr. So I accepted what he was saying,” Ivanka Trump said in relation to these comments from Barr.

What did William Barr say that changed Ivanka Trump’s mind?

William Barr was Donald Trump’s attorney general for most of 2020, before he resigned in the wake of the 2020 election. He had consistently argued against the former president and his claims that the election was stolen or rigged.

In a video shown before the committee, Barr called his Trump’s fraud claims “bullshit” and said that he had “repeatedly told the president in no uncertain terms that I did not see evidence of fraud that would have affected the outcome of the election. And frankly, a year and a half later, I still haven’t.”

How has Donald Trump reacted to his daughter?

In traditional Trumpian fashion, Donald took to social media to denigrate the opinion of his daughter.

“Ivanka Trump was not involved in looking at, or studying, Election results. She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as Attorney General (he sucked!),” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
