January 6th Grand Jury: Could Donald Trump be arrested again and why?
Donald Trump announced that he received a letter stating that he is a target of the federal grand jury case regarding the events of Jan 6th. Could he be arrested?
Former President Trump took to Truth Social that he was told by Jack Smith, the special counsel managing the Justice Department’s investigation into the events of January 6th, that he is a target of the probe and could face charges. If indicted, this would be the third round of charges levied against Donald Trump, following those related to the case involving hush money paid to Stormy Daniels and that associated with the mishandling of classified information.
Little is known about exactly what charges the indictment could include. Still, Donald Trump informed his followers that he had been given “a very short four days [period] to report to the Grand Jury, which almost always means an Arrest and Indictment.”
Could Donald Trump be arrested for a third time?
If, as in the case of the federal indictment regarding the mishandling of classified documents, officials believe they have gathered the evidence necessary to indict the former president, charges could be brought. However, it is unclear whether or not the answers from Donald Trump that Mr. Smith has requested mean that investigators are wrapping up their inquiry. If so, a possible indictment may be less eminent than the post would lead one to believe. The fact that the former president is a target of the investigation does not necessarily mean that he will be charged, but Donald Trump does have a political interest in politizing the investigation to delegitimize any possible charges that could be brought if enough evidence is collected.
