Update:

Jason Bateman is one most recognisable faces on the planet. From starring as Michael Bluth in Arrested Development to Marty Byrde in Ozark, the New Yorker has been on our screens since his early years.

Bateman was recently speaking to MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace on the ‘The Best People’ podcast, and he was quizzed on his thoughts on the Trump administration and the people who voted for the former reality TV star to once again take the top political job in what has been the most powerful country on Earth for decades.

The actor didn’t waste any time in hitting out at Trump and the voters, who he said are making a conscious effort to hide themselves from the truth of what is going on in the world: “There is no attempt to hide that from the Republican voters”, he said. “It’s ubiquitous. It is. You have to go, you have to make a real effort to stay insulated from the facts.”

When asked about the question of Trump not wanting public figures to speak out against him, Bateman lamented the fact that “people are still kind of inoculated from information, those voices, those facts. I don’t know how they do it. I mean, it is by choice.”

‘They are, by choice, keeping themselves insulated from those facts’

They are, by choice, keeping themselves insulated from those facts”, he added. “Or, when they do hear them, they use their intelligence to discount it and somehow feel more intelligent.”

By this point, there was no way Wallace was interrupting Bateman: “They imagine there’s actually a conspiracy, and that there’s a deep state, and that somehow that’s a more complicated thought—and so that makes them feel smarter.

“It’s not like there’s some big effort to dupe America into thinking that Donald Trump is a bad guy, you know?”

Bateman acknowledged his love for the country, reminding that “we all love the flag, we all love the military, we all care about the health of the country”, adding that “I’m just heartbroken that somehow they found a way to shield their eyes and their ears from the current status—and that they could be so helpful in fixing that."
