While fireworks and barbecues are some of the most common ways to celebrate the Fourth of July, there is a strange tradition that brings hundreds of Americans together every Independence Day: Nathan’s Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest.

This contest is held, precisely, by the Nathan’s restaurant chain, which is popularly known for selling the best hot dogs in the country. The rules of the competition are quite simple: Whoever eats the the greatest number of hot dogs within the stipulated limit of 10 minutes is the winner of the contest.

This Tuesday, July 4th, the 101st edition of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest will take place.

Over the years, the competition has seen hundreds of people able to eat unimaginable amounts of hot dogs; but do you know who holds the current record? Okay, so this is Joey Chestnut, a 39-year-old man from Fulton County, Kentucky.

Chestnut is a regular personality in the July 4th hot dog eating competition, as he has managed to position himself as the winner of the contest a total of 15 times, 7 of them in a row; which means that in 2023 he will seek his 16th title.

The current record was set in 2021, when he ate 76 hot dogs in just 10 minutes. Will he be able to beat his own record this Tuesday?
