JOHNNY DEPP

vs

AMBER HEARD

How the trial spiraled

The trial began on April 11 when Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard $50 million for defamation, due to an op-ed she wrote detailing her abuse.

The couple had been married less than two years when they got divorced. Heard said that Depp had been “verbally and physically abusive”.

When Depp sued Heard for defamation, she counter-sued for $100 million, her lawyer calling the allegations a hoax.

Of the many disturbing stories from the trial, Depp’s severed finger is at the top. He wrote her messages with his blood.

The two have differing accounts - he claims Heard threw a vodka bottle at him while she said she was not even there.

Heard’s lawyers presented vulgar messages Depp sent describing how he wanted to burn, drown, and defile Heard’s dead corpse.

The ex-couple’s therapist described their relationship as mutually abusive, though experts say that is an oxymoron.

Experts say there is always a power dynamic in abusive relationships. Heard showed photos of her scars and denied allegations they were doctored.

A forensic psychologist said Heard had borderline personality disorder, but another report said she had PTSD as a result of Depp’s violence.

After 6 weeks and over 100 hours of contradicting testimonies from witnesses, the jury has made its decision.

The jury ruled in favor of Depp, awarding him $15 million in damages. It awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages.
