Jurassic World Dominion, the sixth instalment of the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World sci-fi movie franchise, is to be released in cinemas in the United States on Friday 10 June 2022.

Featuring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World Dominion is the sequel to the 2018 movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and concludes the Jurassic World trilogy.

Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who starred in the original Jurassic Park trilogy, also appear in the latest film.

Jurassic World Dominion the franchise’s last - Pratt

Pratt has said Dominion will be the final movie in the Jurassic franchise, which began with the 1993 film Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the Michael Crichton novel of the same name. “I really do think it’s the end,” Pratt told the Today Show in May.

“You’ve got the legacy cast back - Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum - plus the cast of Jurassic World all converged, our storylines converging in a way that is very much a finale.”

Jurassic World Dominion: what’s the premise?

Jurassic World Dominion is set four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, the fictional island on which scientists used DNA to bring dinosaurs back from extinction at the beginning of the Jurassic Park story.

“Dinosaurs now live - and hunt - alongside humans all over the world,” Universal Pictures’ official synopsis says. “This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.”

“An extinction-level event for the franchise” - critics maul Dominion

Like a T-rex eating a lawyer off a toilet, film critics have utterly mauled Jurassic World Dominion.

In Rolling Stone, David Fear wrote: “It’s not so much a movie as an extinction-level event for the franchise, one in which the last remaining bits of good will and investment in this particular intellectual property are snuffed out like so many unlucky Stegosaurses.”

The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw, meanwhile, labelled Dominion a “convoluted mess”, adding: “The essential thrill of the first Jurassic Park movie, from Michael Crichton’s novel, is completely gone: that vital sense of something hubristic and transgressive and wrong in reviving dinosaurs in the first place. It’s time for everyone involved to do some original thinking.”

Time magazine’s Stephanie Zacharek concluded: “The point of entertainment is not to wear you down, but you’d never know it from watching Jurassic World Dominion.”
