Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump in polls: How many points ahead is she?
Although Kamala Harris’ candidacy is not yet official, the vice president is already ahead of Donald Trump in the polls. Where does the race stand?
Kamala Harris is currently leading Donald Trump in the polls. Almost a week after President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race and offered his support to Vice President Harris, the Democrat is already ahead in national polls for the November 5 general election.
According to various polls, the vice president has a small but significant lead. The University of New Hampshire has Harris’s approval rating at 53% compared to Trump’s 46%.
A REUTERS poll shows Harris leading Trump, 44% to 42%, and YouGov polls have Kamala leading 44% to Donald’s 41%. Most polls have a margin of error of +/- two percentage points, indicating a small but discernible gap in voter support. There is still time for these numbers to change, and based on the unprecedented events of the last month, fluctuations can be expected as voters settle with their preferred candidate.
Kamala Harris challenges Trump to a debate
Now that Kamala is ahead in the polls, the vice president has challenged Donald Trump to a debate, saying she is “ready” for a first televised meeting.
“Trump agreed to a debate on September 10th. It now appears he’s backpedaling,” Harris said. “Voters deserve to see the split screen that exists on a debate stage. I’m ready. So let’s go,” she wrote via X.
When will Kamala Harris be nominated?
Even though Kamala is leading in the polls, she has not been named the Democratic Party’s official candidate. After Biden’s withdrawal, the Democrats had to implement a new process to choose his replacement. Vice President Harris is likely to become the party’s official nominee in mid-August during the DNC convention which will take place in Chicago from the 19th to the 22nd.
