WATCH: Liam Payne and One Direction’s auditions for British TV’s ‘The X Factor’
This was the appearance of Liam Payne and One Direction on ‘The X Factor’, the British television show that brought them together in 2010.
Liam Payne has died aged 31. The former One Direction member reportedly fell from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina.
The singer was found dead at the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires. According to a report from La Nación, police officers went to the scene after the hotel manager called 911 and reported an aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
According to TMZ, witnesses said Liam had been “acting erratically in the hotel lobby” earlier and smashed his laptop, so he had to be carried back to his room.
Payne’s second audition on ‘The X Factor’
Liam Payne, along with Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, was part of the famous British boy band One Direction. Before their split, they became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.
One Direction was formed on the popular talent show The X Factor. In 2010, the group came third in the competition’s seventh series. Payne first auditioned for the fifth season of ‘The X Factor’ in 2008, aged 14, but did not progress in the competition.
The artist returned in 2010 for the seventh season. Payne auditioned with Michael Bublé’s version of Cry Me a River. Although he failed to advance to the “Boys” category after a suggestion from Nicole Scherzinger, Payne and his future bandmates teamed up to form a boy band, which they qualified for in the “Groups” category.
For their qualifying song they performed an acoustic version of Torn. The group quickly gained popularity in the UK. After The X Factor, One Direction signed with Simon Cowell's Syco Entertainment.
The group released five albums: Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), Four (2014) and Made in the A.M. (2015), which spawned hit singles including What Makes You Beautiful, Live While We’re Young, Best Song Ever, Story of My Life i and Drag Me Down. In addition, they ventured on four world tours.
