List of snacks recalled due to salmonella: Ghirardelli, Great Value pizza, Zapp’s chips, and more

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration started a major salmonella recall on April 20, 2026. It now includes dozens of food products from at least eight companies. The recall stems from a potential salmonella risk associated with powdered milk from California Dairies Inc.

The powdered milk and buttermilk were distributed to multiple distributors and manufacturers and used as ingredients in the food products downstream which are being recalled. The products included seasonings, snacks and beverage mixes.

Additionally, the United State Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service flagged a potential salmonella risk linked to the FDA’s powdered milk recall in meat and dairy products that has prompted a recall of frozen pizzas sold at Walmart locations nationwide.

So far there have been no reported illnesses from the products being recalled.

What is Salmonella?

Salmonella are bacteria which may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, but for most people they recover after four to seven days without treatment. At higher risk are young children under 5 years, frail or elderly people over age 65, and others with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms normally start after six hours to six days of ingesting food or liquids contaminated with the organism. However, in some people signs of illness may not appear several weeks after infection.

Those infected often experience fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea, which may be bloody.
