McDonald’s shuts down failed project after less than two years: Here are the locations closing for good

McDonald’s CosMc’s restaurants were a new, experimental fast-food concept launched by McDonald’s in late 2023. They were designed as a beverage-focused, small-format, drive-thru-only spinoff brand, aiming to compete in the growing market for customizable drinks and afternoon snacks, similar to chains like such as Starbucks or Dutch Bros.

Less than two years after launching the initiative, McDonald’s have confirmed that all five branches (four in Texas and one in Illinois) of CosMc will close.

“We will be closing all stand-alone pilot CosMc’s locations on a rolling basis and discontinuing the CosMc’s app,” the company said in a press release.

They added that: the “CosMc’s-inspired flavors” will be be available at some McDonald’s locations as part of a U.S. beverage test" adding “we‘ve learned so much, so quickly from the CosMc’s test."
