Due to the high inflation rates in the United States, a number states across the country have decided to offer some form of assistance, relief payments or stimulus checks to their residents. Although some states have already doled out cash a number of states are still at the proposal stage.

Take for example Michigan, where Governor Gretchen Whitmer has unveiled a proposal to send a $180 relief check to state residents as part of the plan to reduce Michigan costs; because a“huge budget surplus with billions of dollars unspent” is anticipated, so the government seeks to benefit its residents with the excess money.

According to the Governor's proposal, the check may be claimed by any citizen of the state who has filed their tax return for the last fiscal year.

So far, this is the only information available on the matter since the plan is still at the proposal stage. However, couples filing jointly are expected to receive only one check. There is no clear information on how the number of dependents will relate to funds.

When could the payments arrive?

Because the legislation is not yet official, there is no exact date for sending payments; however, experts in the field anticipate that the first checks will be sent in the spring. The Governor will release more details in the coming week.

Deadline to file taxes

Bearing in mind that filing a tax declaration is likely to be a requirement to claim the credit, the recommendation is that you complete that process as soon as possible. Tax season started on January 23 and ends on April 18, which means you still have a couple of months to do the paperwork.
