Since time immemorial, man has wondered if they are alone in the universe, and this is the main reason why many people are naturally attracted to ufology (the study of phenomena related to UFOs). Each of us has heard a thousand times about cases of UFO sightings (or even witnessed), as well as various abnormal phenomena with no apparent explanation that invites us to think that it could be related to these types of files.
Well, today we are not talking about urban legends about Area 51, nor about science fiction movies or video games, but about something very real, like the website set up by the Pentagon to document and investigate all kinds of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) and UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects), where anyone can post their experiences to be investigated by experts in the field belonging to the U.S. government.

Why is NASA involved with studying UAP?
Exploring the unknown in space and the atmosphere is at the heart of who we are. The nature of science is to better understand the unknown – but the language of scientists is data.
The limited number of high-quality observations of unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP, currently makes it impossible to draw scientific conclusions about the nature of such events.
Without access to an extensive set of data, it is nearly impossible to verify or explain any observation, thus the focus of the study is to inform NASA what possible data could be collected in the future to shed light on UAP...
...with a focus on how NASA can use data and the tools of science to move our understanding forward.

Why does NASA use the term UAP and not UFO?
The US Air Force coined the term ‘UFO’ or unidentified flying object in 1952. Over following the decades, UFOs developed into a cultural phenomenon and a staple of sci-fi pop culture. However, it also picked up baggage preventing people that had experiences from coming forward often getting them labeled as crackpots.
While the term UAP has been around for nearly four decades, the official shift to the phraseology was solidified in 2020 with the Pentagon’s establishment of the Navy-led "UAP Task Force" to investigate reports.
UAP, stood for ‘unidentified aerial phenomena’ until December 2022 when it was updated to 'unidentified anomalous phenomena' to encompass objects detected in the air, sea and space that couldn’t be outright explained.
Mexican Congress held a public hearing Tuesday September 12 to address Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), inexplicable objects in the sky formerly known as UFOs, or Unidentified Flying Objects.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration commissioned an independent study into unidentified anomalous phenomena, UAP in shorthand and better known as UFOs or unidentified flying objects, in 2022.
We’ll bring you updates from the briefing on the 16-member panel’s findings taking place at NASA’s headquarters in Washington DC.
The nine-month research was conducted by experts in the scientific, aeronautics, and data analytics communities. The team’s main focus was to develop a way in which to evaluate and study unidentified anomalous phenomena in the future “by using data, technology and the tools of science.”
