Hot dogs have been a staple of American cuisine since the late 19th century. They’re a favorite during summer as they are associated with barbecues and summer fairs.
In honor of this dish, National Hot Dog Day is traditionally held every third Wednesday in July, which falls on Wednesday, July 17 this year. Fans of the sausage can take advantage of deals that establishments are offering to celebrate the day.

Restaurants are giving discounts and freebies, and some of them have deals that last beyond the food holiday itself. Here are some of the offers that hot dog lovers can take advantage of.
Dog Haus
Dog Haus customers will be given a free Haus Dog which they can claim in-store on July 17. No purchase is necessary, but you have to be a member of their rewards club. Just log in to the restaurant’s app and show the offer to the cashier when you make your order. Available at participating locations.
Hot Dog on a Stick
If you’re looking for a different take on the classic, Hot Dog on a stick will serve up their special menu item called The Charlie, which is a hot dog stuffed inside their Cheese on a Stick. If you have your dog with you, you get a free bag of Milk-Bone mini treats and a bandanna with a minimum purchase of $20. The freebies will be available until Aug. 11.

Nathan’s Famous
Well-known for its annual Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest, the brand will be selling their hot dogs at their original price of five cents. Customers will be limited to buying two hot dogs per person.
Wienerschnitzel
On Wednesday, customers at the chain that’s famous for its chili dogs will be able to buy four of these items for only $4. The offer is only available on July 17, and can only be claimed in-store.
Shake Shack
In-store diners at Shake Shack can get their hands on a free hot dog with a minimum purchase of $1 at participating restaurants and kiosks or through the chain’s app or website for pickup or delivery. Just used the code FREEHOTDOG to claim your freebie.
