Happy National Taco Day!

For those looking to celebrate, a few fast-food chains are offering deals to celebrate. Here is what you need to know before heading out.

Most chains use these ‘holidays’ to attract new users to their applications by offering special deals.

All month long, Del Taco is celebrating Tacotoberfest with new specials each week.

This week, those using the Del Taco app to place their order can get a free ‘Del Taco’ with any purchase over three dollars. With any purchase over $5, a free beer-battered fish taco can be ordered. There are also plenty of ‘buy-one-get-one’ offers to take advantage of. Starting this Wednesday and for those remaining in October, app users will also be able to purchase a bundle that includes five tacos for $3.

Jack in the Box will allow those ordering through the app to order two tacos for $0.99. The Monster Taco, which has made its return to the chain, can be selected, as well as the new Angry Monster Tacos.

Over at Taco Bell, the chain will allow those interested to purchase the ‘Taco Lover’s Pass’ for $10. With the pass, customers are entitled to one free taco a day for a month.

California Tortilla will be issuing a coupon for a free Taco that can be used between October 5-11, with any purchase.

At the chain, El Pollo Loco, which has around 500 locations, will offer eight free tacos when customers spend more than $10.

7-Eleven will allow 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards® members to order 10 mini tacos for $2. Last year this deal was offered to all customers, but like its competitors, 7-Eleven is attempting to push users toward their rewards program.

What are the origins of the ‘holiday’?

The holiday in the United States can be traced back to the Mexican fast-food chain Del Taco, which began celebrating in 2009. Since then, other restaurants, including those at the local and national levels, have begun to offer specials, too.

October was likely chosen as it is Hispanic Herritage Month, but there is no specific reason why the holiday takes place on the fourth of October, but since it began more than a decade ago, the date has stuck.
