Netflix releases trailer for ‘The Watcher’ a spooky series starring Naomi Watts based on a true story
A new series is coming to Netflix just in time for Halloween... ‘The Watcher’ will be available in just a few weeks for those looking for something scary.
With Halloween just around the corner, Netflix is promoting a new spooky series, ‘The Watcher.’
The new show follows the life of a family who has moved to a new neighborhood and when all seems right, they receive a mysterious letters that they are being watched. In the trailer, the first letter received by the family is read out loud by the eldest daughter. Then, the note is taken by the parents who begin to examine it for possible clues, and when unable to determine who the sender may be, involve others from the area.
“The house is my obsession, and now you are too.”
“I will never stop watching,” says the watcher. In these letters the writer says that he will be keeping a close eye on the house and its newest occupants, setting of a chain of thrilling events. The main problem being it looks like there are many possible watchers.
For those interested in true crime, the show may be of interest since it is based on the real but unsolved case of a New Jersey family who “moved into 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey, and began receiving threatening letters from a stalker.” Netflix acquired the rights needed to produce the show in 2018 and at the time a few outlets, including Deadline, reported on the content of the real letters, which when read send a chill down the spine.
The show was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, who are masters of horror. Murphy, who has been called “the most powerful man” in TV happens to be the mind behind American Horror Story, Scream Queens, American Crime Story and many other chilling shows and movies. Brennan, has worked with Murphy on Scream Queens and Glee, which unlike the other productions has a much more cheerful vibe.
Who stars in the new show?
The show features many Hollywood stars including Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale who play the parents of the house. Mia Farrow, the ex-wife of Woody Alan, as well as Jennifer Coolidge and Matthew Del Negro, will also make an appearance in the mini series.
Jennifer Coolidge plays the realtor who gives the Broaddus family some advice when when confronted with evidence of the threats, telling them that their best option is to “sell sell sell.”
When will ‘The Watcher’ premier?
The show will be available for streaming on Netflix starting on Thursday 13 October. In total there will be seven episodes and it is unlikely that Netflix will order a second season since it is being advertised as a mini-series.
