New data revealed about the implosion of the Titan submersible

After the catastrophic implosion of the Titan submersible, alleged communication between it and the vessel that served as its mother ship has circulated online. New reports show, these are fake.

It has been almost a year since the Titan submarine disaster. The five passengers aboard a submersible lost their lives on the private expedition to take them to see the remains of the Titanic up close. But nothing went as planned, and finally, after losing contact with the ship that took them to the area where they began their descent, the submarine suffered a ‘catastrophic implosion’ that ended the lives of the occupants.

Over the last year, some communications between the submersible and the Polar Prince, the ship that served as its mother ship, have been published. However, according to The New York Times, these communications are false.

After almost a year of investigation, the head of the United States Federal Government team handling the case assured that this was not the case. Captain Jason D. Neubauer, a retired member of the Coast Guard and Chair of the Marine Board of Investigation, was the man in charge of the investigation. The NYT spoke with Captain Neubauer to get the details on what happened on that fateful day and what the passengers knew before boarding the vessel.

However, some are not so convinced that the government is forthcoming in what the investigation has uncovered and that preventative steps are being taken to ensure a disaster like this does not happen again. Kim Ketter, author of “COUNTDOWN TO ZERO DAY: Stuxnet and the Launch of the World’s First Digital Weapon,” posted on X that it seems like all articles point to one source on what caused the failure, and very little action by governments to investigate the incident thoroughly and identify policies that would prevent such as disaster in the future.

Be aware of false information

Any investigation could take years. According to Neubauer, this is a complex investigation due to the lack of witnesses, the complicated extraction of data from electronic devices, and the event’s location in international waters off the coast of Canada.

This false transcript, which has nearly seven million views on YouTube, claimed that the Titan informed its mother ship of several problems in the hull and some noises it heard. When one sees videos like this online, one should be critical and verify the information they are hearing from reputable sources.

According to the video, the supposed last message between the submersible and the Polar Prince was: “RTM alert active, all red.” RTM is the abbreviation for the Real Time Hull Health Monitoring system. This system comprises a network of sensors that could warn that something is failing in the case, giving the pilot enough time to abandon the submersible and escape the high pressures of the deep sea.
