Update:

Florida is among the U.S. states that are raising their minimum wage in 2026.

The Sunshine State already belongs to the group of states with a minimum wage higher than the federal rate of $7.25 an hour - a figure that hasn’t budged in 16 years.

Florida’s most recent hike came this year. On September 30, workers saw their hourly minimum wage jump by $1, thanks to a voter-approved amendment passed in 2020. That adjustment brought the rate to $14 per hour, and $10.98 for tipped employees.

The amendment’s goal was clear: reach $15 an hour by 2026. The $1 annual increases began in September 2021, when the minimum wage climbed to $10 an hour, and will wrap up next year. Here’s the progression:

  • 2022: $11
  • 2023: $12
  • 2024: $13
  • 2025: $14

When does Florida’s 2026 minimum wage rise kick in?

In 2026, the final scheduled increase will take effect on September 30, pushing Florida’s minimum wage to $15 per hour and $11.98 for tipped workers - the target set by the amendment. That rate will remain in place through December 31, 2027.

While the automatic $1 hikes will end, Florida’s minimum wage won’t freeze. Future adjustments will be tied to changes in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) to protect workers’ purchasing power. These inflation-based increases will start in 2028.

Other states raising minimum wage in 2026

More than 20 states have scheduled increases for next year. Alongside Florida, they are: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, South Dakota, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.

Some states will implement the new rates on January 1, 2026, others in July, and Florida in September.
