In July of this year, it will be 16 years since the last increase in the federal minimum wage. In 2009, the wage of $7.25 per hour went into effect, and despite attempts, it has not gone up. However, some states, including Florida, have higher rates.

Its state minimum wage rose in September of last year from $12 to $13 per hour, as well as to $9.98 per hour for tipped employees.

The minimum wage in the Sunshine State is expected to increase again in 2025.

When the minimum wage will increase in Florida this year

In November 2020, Florida voters approved a state constitutional amendment to increase the state’s minimum wage annually until it reaches $15 per hour on Sept. 30, 2026.

Thanks to citizens voting in favor of the Amendment 2 proposal, approved by the state legislature, has allowed for the gradual increase of the minimum wage, including an increase this year.

On Sept. 30, 2025, the minimum wage in Florida will increase to $14 per hour and $10.98 for tipped employees.

This is how Florida’s minimum wage will rise in 2026 and 2027

In 2026, the minimum wage will rise to $15 and $11.98 for tipped employees. Although the amendment only provides for one-dollar increases up to $15 per hour in 2026, it also notes that subsequent increases will be based on changes in the Consumer Price Index so as not to affect workers' purchasing power.

The $15 hourly wage will be in effect until Dec. 31, 2027, so indexed increases based on the Consumer Price Index will begin in 2028.
