New minimum wage in Santa Monica, California, starting July 1: how much will it go up to?

The city of Santa Monica, California, is preparing to raise the minimum wage on July 1. Find out how much the new hourly base amount will be.

In January, more than 20 states and several cities and counties around the nation increased their respective minimum wages. On the other hand, two more states, as well as a number of cities and counties, are preparing to increase their minimum wages starting in July.

Among the cities that will increase their minimum wage next month is Santa Monica in California. Here’s what the new amount will be.

This will be the new minimum wage in the city of Santa Monica starting in July

According to the Santa Monica city government website, the minimum wage will increase from $16.90 to $17.27 per hour starting July 1, 2024.

The increase is calculated annually based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) for the Los Angeles-Riverside-Orange County, California metropolitan area, published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

On the other hand, the wage for hotels and companies that operate hotel properties will rise from $19.73 to $20.32 per hour starting July 1, 2024. This rate is aligned with the rate minimum wage for hotel workers in the city of Los Angeles.

The new minimum wage ordinance also notes that the paid sick leave provision requires Santa Monica employers to provide 40 hours, in the case of small businesses, or 72 hours, in the case of larger businesses, of paid sick leave.
