The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and Thanksgiving is just a few days away.

Next Thursday, marks the beginning of a month-long celebration in the United States. However, with this festive time comes the risk of scams, especially during one of the most consumer-driven periods of the year.

Amazon has issued a statement warning of scams targeting Amazon Prime members, with the company reminding shoppers to be vigilant to avoid falling victim to these scams.

One of the most common scams...

One of the most common ways scammers seize personal information is through e-mail.

Scammers pose as Amazon customer service representatives and send users a link to the email address associated with their Amazon account. Once the user clicks on the link and enters their information, a page that looks almost identical to the Amazon website will pop up. This page will ask the user to either login or enter their payment details. If the user provides this information, the scammers will gain access to their account, putting their personal information at risk.

“The bad thing isn’t opening the attachment. It’s clicking on the link in the attachment, which goes straight to their website, where they start collecting all kinds of information,” noted Scott Knapp the global director of risk prevention at Amazon to CBS earlier this week.

Another scam that you should keep your eye out for...

The second type of scam uses text messaging or e-mail to steal sensitive data. The scammer will inform the user of a new membership fee or additional charge to their account and ask them to confirm or cancel it by providing their payment information. If you receive a message with these characteristics or any other suspicious emails, do not share your confidential information and report it immediately.
