North Korea triples its military in Ukraine to reinforce Moscow, and here’s how it may affect the U.S.

Kim Jong Un is sending an even bigger detachment of North Korean soldiers to aid Putin with his war against Ukraine according to intelligence reports.

Update:

Pyongyang is planning to send even more soldiers to bolster Russian troops at the frontlines in their war of aggression against Ukraine. According to Ukrainian intelligence as many as 30,000 North Korean troops could be heading to Russia to join their remaining brethren from an earlier detachment of 11,000 in November last year.

That contingent was deployed to the Kursk region inside Russia to help recapture territory taken by Ukraine during their audacious move to take the war to the invaders’ home turf. The North Korean forces faced heavy casualties with roughly 4,000 killed or injured so far according to Western assessments.

According to CNN, citing satellite images provided by Open Source Centre, a UK-based non-profit specializing in open-source intelligence related to defense and security, the same type of vessels used to transport troops last fall have been seen docked at the same port in the far east of Russia once again. Additionally, Russian cargo planes, possibly the same type used in the previous deployment of North Korean forces were since on the tarmac in the neighboring country.

Moscow is currently amassing 110,000 troops close to Pokrovsk on the frontline near Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. Russia has been taking heavy losses as its forces have advanced on the town and nearby Kostiantynivka which sit on crossroads used for Ukrainian supply lines.

US cutting back on weapons shipments to Ukraine

The White House announced on Tuesday that it had halted some shipments of weapons to Ukraine. The news caught Kyiv off guard and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that such a move would only embolden Vladimir Putin to continue the conflict instead of seeking peace.

The move by the Trump administration came after the Defense Department reviewed current US stockpiles in light of the US’ global military support and assistance and they were determined to be too low. “This decision was made to put America’s interests first,” White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement.
