Over a million Toyota vehicles recalled for rearview camera failure — is yours on the list?
Toyota has announced a massive recall affecting over one million cars and SUVs Here’s what you need to know and how to check if your vehicle is affected.

Toyota is recalling about 1,025,000 vehicles in the United States due to a defect that causes the rearview camera to stop displaying the image properly—or in some cases, not at all.
The issue poses a significant safety risk because it limits drivers’ visibility when reversing, violating federal safety standards that require functioning backup cameras on all modern vehicles.
Toyota said the problem stems from the monitoring system’s ECU software—a key component of the parking assist system—and will issue a free software update at dealerships.

While Toyota hasn’t released the full model year breakdown yet, the recall involves multiple Toyota and Lexus models, totaling more than one million units.
Dealers will begin notifying affected customers by December, when repairs are expected to be available. Toyota also confirmed that Lexus owners are included in this campaign.
If you’re a Toyota or Lexus owner, you can contact your local dealer or Toyota’s customer service center to schedule the fix once the update becomes available.
How to check if your vehicle is part of the recall
Even if you drive a Toyota or Lexus listed in the recall announcement, your specific vehicle may not be included. To find out for sure:
- Visit Toyota.com/recall or go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.
- Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) — a 17-character code found on your dashboard near the windshield, on the driver’s side.
- Follow the instructions to see whether your vehicle is affected by this or any other active recall.
If your car is part of the recall, your dealer will repair it free of charge, updating the ECU software that controls the backup camera.
