Update:

A recent report from Fair Health found that around two percent of adults in the United States are taking a GLP-1 drug like Ozempic and Wegovy to manage their weight. In terms of perceptions among patients who are overweight or obese, the research team at Fair Health found that the percentage prescribed a GLP-1 rose from 2.05 percent in 2019 to 2.05 percent in 2024. Though the drug was initially developed to help those with diabetes, its use among people without the disease has doubled.

Speak with your doctor about your dose

If you experience any adverse side effects or have concerns about your treatment plan, please consult with your primary care physician. If you’ve only recently started the medication, the lack of results could be because not enough time has passed for it to take effect. Additionally, the low dosage many patients start with may not yield the results they expect. But as time goes on, and your body adjusts to the drug and your PCP increases the dosage, the effects may become more noticeable.

Examine your diet and exercise routine

Medical professionals also advise that while these drugs can be effective tools for weight loss, improving your diet and incorporating regular exercise can help accelerate progress. Eating a balanced diet rich in protein and fiber not only supports weight loss but also fuels your body with the energy it needs and helps build healthier, more sustainable habits.

If you’re feeling stressed or anxious, it may be helpful to talk to your doctor. Starting a new treatment and making lifestyle changes can be challenging, and having additional support could make a big difference in your success.
