Perseid meteor shower in the UK
Here's how the meteor shower looks like from the UK. We'll have live coverage from the US as soon as the night falls.
This astronomical phenomenon can be observed from the entire northern hemisphere and the speed of its meteors can exceed 30 miles per second. It is a very recognizable meteor shower thanks to its activity rate, which can reach 200 meteors per hour.
When does a meteor shower occur?
It occurs when tiny dust particles from a comet enter the Earth's atmosphere at high speed and disintegrate by friction, producing the light trail we call a meteor or shooting star.
Welcome!
Good evening! Welcome to the live coverage of the Perseid meteor shower! Tonight and tomorrow night we are going to be able to witness the peak of this phenomenon. There is also a very bright Supermoon, which is not ideal to see the 'shooting stars', but who knows... Maybe it's our lucky night!
